I’ve recently been trained to administer the EQ-i, 2.0 assessment, which has opened a big door onto what to date had been rather murky territory – Emotions and the role they play in our being effective managers and leaders in the workplace. The EQ assessment gives someone a readout of data on their own unique Emotional Intelligence profile. This has been a a fantastic way for me to discuss a subject that has often been off limits, especially for men in the work place – in case anyone hasn’t noticed, men just don’t want to discuss emotions. The EQ-i, 2.0 assessment has changed all of that by turning the discussion into one of reviewing data, and men love to talk about any thing data related – this is their sandbox where they love to play, because it is the realm of that which can be measured, and if you can measure it – it is real. Anything short of that is way too saft and mushy for consideration.

All of this gets even more interesting when you consider the results if a new survey commissioned by the Center for American Progress, and Elle magazine.

I thought that the new information revealed within the survey is pretty interesting and adds a new twist on an old message. If nothing else it certainly makes taking the EQ-i,2.0 assessment an even better idea for both men and for women in the workplace.

“Males are more likely to be thought of as “aggressive” while females are “polite”; female leaders are “compassionate” and “perfectionists,” while male leaders are more “bossy” and “stressed”; females are more likely “easy to work with,” while males are more likely to be “emotional.” That last one stands out since women once owned the adjective “emotional.” Perhaps this is progress of a sort if men’s emotions are now fair game.”

      Thank you for your interest and for sharing your acknowledgement. Authentic relationships with our colleagues, or anyone for that matter, are only possible when you know yourself. That is why an assessment, like the EQ-i, 2.0 provides my clients with an opportunity to identify behaviors that are not serving their best interests. Bring that new found focused awareness to a coaching conversation, and it gives us a real chance to replace those old self sabotaging behaviors, with new strength based behaviors that significantly drive up the possibility for success.

    I think it even gets more interesting when we consider that what we have traditionally considered, male and female energetic responses to a given set of external stimuli, are not necessarily the exclusive domain of gender type.

    Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and appearance.
